With almost everyone switching into the back to school planning mode, it’s time I wrote about something I like to do with my family. That is taking a trip before my son is going back to school. It doesn’t have to be a long vacation, it can be a weekend trip or even a 1-day trip before school starts. Here’s why you should take a trip before going back to school.
I noticed great outcomes from a family outing before summer ends – or early autumn, depending on when school starts where you are. And these benefits are not only for our son but for ourselves too. So here are my top reasons to take a trip before going back to school.
Why you should take a trip before going back to school
Taking a break from all the back to school shopping
Running after the perfect pencil box, books, notebooks, schoolbag, and all the other items you have to buy before school starts is a bit of a race. Finding the best price and the model your child wants – well, that’s no easy task.
Yes, it’s exciting. Yes, it’s the start of a new learning year in which your child will know more. But it can also be exhausting!
So how about taking a trip? Now that you’ve got everything, or pretty much everything, what would it feel like to take a break from all the back to school shopping and just travel a bit?
It’ll be a different kind of excitement and it’ll allow you to have something else on your mind other than school supplies.
Relaxation for the entire family
If you decide to go on a trip before school starts, it’ll be a perfect way for the entire family to relax. You can choose to visit a place closer to home or to go somewhere special. No matter where you go or how long the trip is, it’ll be relaxing – because, well, no school shopping:D
Having fun together and creating lasting wonderful memories
All the trips you take together are perfect opportunities to create lasting memories. But, as I’ve discovered, there’s something special about taking a vacay before school starts.
It’s like this trip is more appreciated – by everyone – as the entire family knows it’s the last chance to unwind before the first day of school. And everyone also knows that it is going to be a while before the next vacation!
Better prices – booking a last-minute travel deal
You might decide to plan such a trip a month before school starts – and that would be a great idea as it is the perfect time to find some great last-minute deals. This way, you can actually save some money as well!
Moreover, there are some countries where you actually have better options at the beginning of September. In my country, school starts in the second week of the month – and the first week of September is the first offseason week which means you still get good weather, but you also get great prices for accommodation!
Spontaneity
Often times, taking a trip before school starts is a moment’s decision. And it’s a lot of fun to take a spontaneous trip!
I admit that I had the idea of a one-day trip near my town just days before the last weekend before my son was getting back to school. It was out of the blue, but we are lucky enough to have numerous great places to visit nearby, and we love to travel by car.
Such out of the blue trips are perfect for us!
Recharging everyone’s batteries
With a new school year beginning, everyone needs as much energy as possible. Trips will help you get this energy as they recharge you. You get to fill your soul with the beauty of the place you are visiting, you create great family moments to remember, and you can discover new things if you visit museums or other places that teach you something as well. And this is another one of my top reasons to take a trip before school starts.
Taking the stress out of the back to school preparations
What taking a trip before school starts does is that it takes the stress out of the back to school preparations. There are indeed a lot of things to do to make sure the new school years starts off on the right foot. While these preparations may have become a routine for you by now, they are still stressful.
Taking a trip before the new school year is the perfect way to release this stress and to focus on something else for a while – on something beautiful and fun for everyone: a trip.
These are my top reasons to take a trip before going back to school. How about you: do you like to take trips before school starts?
