Walking through the Eternal City feels like stepping into an open-air museum. The Vatican Museums, home to the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo’s iconic ceiling fresco, will leave you in awe. The Borghese Gallery is another must-visit, featuring stunning sculptures by Bernini and paintings by Caravaggio. Don’t miss the Capitoline Museums, showcasing ancient Roman sculptures, and of course, the Colosseum – you can find an ample guide to Rome here, featuring famous attractions and off-the-beaten-path places to visit.
2. London, United Kingdom
London offers something for every kind of art enthusiast. From the British Museum to the National Gallery, and from Tate Modern to the Victoria and Albert Museum there are so many wonderful options.

Paris is one of my favourite cities and definitely one of the best places to visit for art and culture.
Of course, I was mesmerized – and I recommend – the Louvre, home to the Mona Lisa and over 35,000 works of art, including the majestic Venus de Milo. Even the building is a masterpiece, blending historic grandeur with the modern glass pyramid entrance.
For Impressionist art lovers, the Musée d’Orsay is a dream come true – and the only regret I have is that you are not allowed to take pictures inside. Set in a former railway station,you’ll find Monet’s serene landscapes, Degas’ graceful ballerinas, and Van Gogh’s works – plus sculptures and more. I loved wandering its elegant halls, taking in works that changed the course of art history.
There are plenty more wonderful museums to visit in Paris, and every trip to this city will be enriched by the wonderful buildings in the city. Yes, I am recommending long walks in Paris in different areas to take in all its beauty and grandeur!
4. New York City, USA
Let’s go to another continent for amazing art destinations worldwide.
New York City is a hub of creativity and diversity, and every time you visit the city, you can experience and discover something new.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) is a treasure trove spanning thousands of years of art history, from ancient Egypt to modern masterpieces. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is the place to go for works by Picasso, Warhol, and Pollock.
For a different perspective, head to The Whitney Museum of American Art, which highlights contemporary works by American artists. And, of course, Broadway shows are an unmissable experience in NYC.
5. Vienna, Austria
Vienna’s artistic legacy is unmatched, and I couldn’t get enough of its imperial charm. I loved the city and plan on visiting it again soon, especially as Vienna has many great museums for all preferences.
The Belvedere Palace houses Gustav Klimt’s iconic The Kiss, which is an absolute must-see. I also loved exploring the Kunsthistorisches Museum, with its extensive collection of European paintings by masters like Caravaggio and Velázquez.
For a more modern touch, check out the Albertina Museum, home to impressive graphic works and photography exhibits. My favourite remains the Schonbrunn Palace. Vienna is a city where art and history converge in the most elegant way.
6. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is a haven for art lovers, and if you like Van Gogh, then you need to check out Van Gogh Museum, which offers an intimate look at the life and works of this legendary artist.
Right next door, you’ll find the Rijksmuseum, home to masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and other Dutch Golden Age artists. There are many more amazing things to do in Amsterdam, so you will never get bored in this city.
7. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is a must-visit city in Europe for art lovers. Home to works of art by Gaudí, this city is a perfect blend of art, architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene.
My husband was completely captivated by La Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece that feels more like a sculpture than a church. Park Güell, another of Gaudí’s creations, is a colorful wonderland you’ll never forget.
For art enthusiasts, the Picasso Museum is a must-see, showcasing the artist’s early works and offering insights into his creative evolution.
8. Seoul, South Korea
Seoul is a rising star in the world of art and culture. The National Museum of Korea highlights the country’s rich history through artifacts, sculptures, and paintings making it a great addition to your Seoul itinerary if you want to learn more about the country. You may never visit everything there is to see, but it is always a great idea to learn more about each place that you are visiting.
And my tip is to talk to the locals – hotel receptionists, people you meet at a traditional restaurant, in a souvenir shop, etc. – to ask them questions and just talk. They are a true treasure trove when it comes to learning more about a place and going beyond the surface!
